Therapy

My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable and supported to tell your story, yet challenged enough to learn and grow.

You might be worried that therapy will focus on "what's wrong with you." However, my role will be to guide you with compassion to be curious about your experiences, beliefs, goals, and ways you have adapted and coped with life. We’ll talk about how what has happened to you affects who you are today, and we’ll map out a path to the life you deserve.

EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES

My Approaches to Therapy

I take a person-centered approach that draws on my training in a variety of evidence-based forms of therapy.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR therapy can help you process traumatic and adverse memories and reduce their emotional impact. This unique approach can effectively treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, and a range of other challenges. You don’t have to talk in detail about the distressing issue, complete homework between sessions, or try to change your emotions, thoughts, or behaviors around the issue. Instead, I’ll help you focus on difficult experiences while engaging in bilateral stimulation, often through guided eye movements. This allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. As an EMDR expert with over 20 years of experience, I've witnessed its transformative effects firsthand. My extensive background as an EMDR trainer, facilitator, and Approved Consultant, along with my role in implementing an inaugural EMDR Therapy Conference, allows me to offer you the highest level of expertise in this life-changing therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT targets symptoms by changing unhelpful patterns in behavior, thoughts, and feelings to improve overall functioning and build resiliency.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT teaches you to manage intense emotions and improve relationships through mindfulness and acceptance. It's particularly effective for people struggling with borderline personality disorder.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT teaches you to accept life experiences without judgment, using mindfulness to build a compassionate relationship with difficult situations. This approach aims to free you from negative thought cycles, promoting peace of mind and healing.

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

REBT focuses on identifying and challenging irrational beliefs that may be causing emotional distress. By disputing these thought processes, we work to reduce their negative consequences and promote more balanced thinking.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative communication approach that helps people explore and strengthen their own reasons for making positive changes. Using empathy, open questions, and supportive guidance, it empowers individuals to resolve ambivalence about change while respecting their autonomy and personal values.

Solutions-Focused Therapy

This therapy concentrates on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. By setting clear goals and drawing on your past successes, we’ll work together to create change in your life.

How can I pick the best therapist for me?

Think about questions like these:

  • Do you feel comfortable with the therapist you’re considering?
  • Can you be honest with this person about difficult topics?
  • Do you feel heard and understood?
  • Do they accept feedback and address your questions and concerns?

Do you provide virtual therapy sessions?

I offer therapy both online and in-person therapy. Just let me know your preferences when you’re scheduling your appointment.

Do you accept insurance?

For Colorado clients, I accept private pay, Cigna/Evernorth, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum. Clients pay the contracted co-pays, co-insurance, and/or deductibles. If you have Medicaid coverage that includes mental health services, I am not able to offer mental health services to you. For Minnesota clients, I can only accept private pay. I can provide superbills for you to submit out-of-network claims to your insurance company.

What is your self-pay rate?

Individual therapy is $150 for sessions of 53-60 minutes. Family therapy is $200 for sessions of 45-60 minutes.

Can I get a Good Faith Estimate?

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, the “No Surprises Act,” you have a right to receive a “good faith estimate” explaining how much your therapy services will cost. Healthcare providers are required to provide clients who do not have insurance or who choose not to use their insurance for therapy services with an estimate of the cost of those services. The total cost for each client will vary depending upon the length of time and frequency of sessions that occur throughout the therapeutic relationship as determined by the initial assessment and continued evaluation of treatment needs and progress. Your estimate will be valid for the twelve (12) months from the date of issue. Should any fee changes occur, or upon your request, I will provide you with a new Good Faith estimate.

What will happen during our first session?

I will send you a link to your client portal. In the portal, you will find new client paperwork. Please complete this paperwork 24 hours before your initial session. This session, also known as the intake session, focuses on getting to know each other. We’ll discuss your life experience and why you’re seeking therapy. As we will build our therapeutic relationship, we’ll create your treatment goals together.

How frequently would I need to schedule therapy appointments?

The frequency of your therapy sessions depends on your unique needs. As we set the cadence of your appointments, we’ll consider medical necessity, payment method, and timing.

How long will I need to go to therapy?

Many factors go into determining how long the course of therapy will be. The most important factor is you. We’ll explore your experiences and areas of growth and then create treatment goals and objectives. We will revisit your goals and objectives every three to six months or at your request. We will work on symptom reduction or comprehensive treatment. However, you can change your mind any time. New or old experiences may affect the duration of your treatment.
